Pineapples in a photobook ? Yes.

Mmmm

Alec Soth got commissioned by the Festival to produce a work on the city of Rome. He has decided to remake the picture “An American girl in Roma” by Ruth Orkin.
And he added some pineapples.

This is a strange book. My first reading was not really positive, quite dubitative

But the more you look at the book, the more you like the work.

Published 2009 by Poursuite, bought at Le Bal in January

My very special dedication. Grigri is an “argot” word to say signature, and Grigri was Benoît Grimalt’s nickname when he was kid. He didn’t know this argot word and was very surprised when I asked him. Hum. What a coincidence !

The story of this book : how, when, why he started looking for traces of Syd Barrett.

Then a kind of photo journal, or a game.

I laughed

Self-published 2010, I bought it at Le Bal, during Paris Photo (39 euros)

Just think about all the hours spent by Sébastien, looking for these pictures, editing, waiting for the best moment (at night, freezing). Keeping his strong exigence in his process. Very well done.
